Cash for votes, Lingayat move and under estimation played their own roles. Congress, BJP and JD(S) competed for victory. While the congress and BJP has an organisational base throughout the state but the influence of JD(S) is limited to Southern Karnataka.     Many predicted there is only an open contest between Congress and BJP. But the actual scenario was that the congress faced thought fight in Old Mysore region ( JD(S) stronghold) than the rest of the state. In fact it is predicted that, if World War III materializes, it will be mainly for water. The historical verdict of Supreme Court which came on 16th Feb 2018 did not ceasefire the ongoing water war. Instead it gave stimulus to widespread protests across the two states. The court also gave a deadline for Central Government to implement the verdict. But the Center trespasses the deadline with absolute silence. Many viewed that the BJP led government delayed the implementation was due to upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka.
