Author : Arun Ravi       Cauvery issue was a century long issue begun in 1892 between erstwhile Mysore Kingdom and Madras Presidency. Cauvery originates from Kodagu hills in Karnataka and flows through Tamilnadu. A series of negotiations took place between both parties, all ended in failure. There were improvements in post Independence era especially after 1980's.        In 1990, Supreme Court ordered to constitute Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) which gave temporary solution to this issue.In 1991 CWDT announces an interim judgement in favour of Tamilnadu. But it could not be implemented. So, then BJP led government formed Cauvery River Authority to carry out CWDT's Judgement. There were widespread protests in Karnataka.
